Golf cart, stripped driveshaft splines...

I have an EZGO gas golf cart that one of the rear cast iron brake drum drive splines stripped out. Hate to pay $60+ for a new drum that might strip again as the shaft splines are wore a little too....new shaft is $169! I was thinking of red Loctite and maybe drill partway into the shaft for a roll pin. Any other ideas? I know Loctite has some pretty good products, is there something better than red?

To bad your not closer to me. I have some of those old Ezgo had the 2 cycle engine that would run one way to go forwards and then backward to go backwards.

2 stroke and electric use a smaller shaft....this one is a 4 stroke gas

Eldon look on your craigs list sites on the computer. I see the drive lines for sale all the time up here.
Most are advertised about the same as 1 new axle.

Eldon, on our old ones when I was working, we used green and let it set a day. Mind that to disassemble you?ll need to heat to
600 degrees for a second to break it loose.

Really nothing to loose by trying...

But I doubt it will be a permanent repair. If the splines wore away, not much chance a pin would hold, and drilling the shaft will weaken it.

Maybe a new drum, thoroughly clean the shaft, then use Locktite.

Eldon, have a neighbor that rebuilds golf carts. Send me the part numbers and will see if he can help. He has a lot of used stuff also.
