I am just about ready to throw in the towel on those 6 volt batteries. Can;t get more than about 2 years out of them, and then can't find a new one when needed. Probably cheaper and easier to convert to 12 volts.

I converted most of mine years ago!!! Have 3 that are still 6 volt but not for long!!! Last Group 1 6 volt battery
cost over $100 and most like said don?t last over 2 years!!! Once I convert them I can use those cheaper irrigation
batteries that cost about 1/2 of those group 1 6 volt!!! I convert them to alternators but keep and label the take off
generators and regulators!!! Nobody in town can or will even test a generator anymore!!!! I know, first thing ?certain?
people point out is ?that didn?t come out with an alternator? and no they didn?t but there are tractors (not mine) there
that didn?t come out with $2000-$3000++ base coat-clear paint jobs either!!!!

I know what you mean, paying $60 for a battery at a farm store will end up being the most expensive battery you can buy. Last battery I bought at an independent shop that worked on electrical issues, think I paid around $110, its five years old and going strong.

Auto stores usually have them or can get them.
Many of them do not have them out on display anymore.
You may have to take them a part number to cross reference.

I had the unfortunate experience of buying one at O'Reilly's
recently. It was Sunday and my normal parts store was closed.
They couldn't find it in their computer, but cross referenced the
part number from my old Group one and had one in stock.
Their part number for it is "1".

We seem to get 5-6 years out of the 6v batteries in our Farmall C, if I ever have to pay more than $50 for one I will convert it to 12v.
For now it works fine on 6v, has for 70 years!

Six volt batteries are a low demand item. They might sit on a store shelf for a year, two years or more before one sells. It may be a blessing in disguise to have to order a freshly made battery from a central warehouse that has high turnover rather than to rely on NOS (new old stock) that has been sitting on a back shelf for years.

Picked one up at NAPA today, Manf. date is 1 month ago. 6 V is working fine for me as the rest of the system is working well also. I have a shop 22 miles away that still works starters and generators so for now I will be keeping my 72 year old tractor stock, and no mega paint job as it is still a working tractor.
Thanks all Jim

I wish you the best of luck. I gave up on NAPA batteries many years ago. Both 6 volt and 12 volt. The best 6 volt batteries I've had came from the farm store, but even those had a shorter than expected life.
