Ford A62 manufacture date

Hi I have a Ford A 62 pay loader that I am trying to figure out which turbo it needs. The tractor # is RS03072 Engine # is 1L20A Model FZ511V can anyone tell me what year that machine is. Thanks

A-62 were made from Jan 1974 through Dec 1983, and "FZ" is the code for A-62. Engine build code is for Nov. 20, 1971. did you get the engine number off the engine itself, or the units ID tag? Engine build usually within 30 days before unit assembly, but not always.

That # was from machine ID tag. The date that the turbo type was changed was Sept. of 1980 so I think I am safe to assume that this machine has the old style turbo.Thanks for your help.

Since the loader was built from 1974 to 1983 I'd think that 1L20A production date would be Nov 20, 1981 instead of 1971.

The 76 model we had had a 256 engine with a Schweitzer turbo like used on a 7600 tractor.
Ford switched to a Air Research turbo in 78.
The turbo's have their brand name cast into the housing on the air intake side, a quick look should tell you which one you have.

We swapped in a later model 268 turbo engine when the 256 blew up, it was like we took a 4 cylinder out and installed a V8.
