OT : texas Yaupon tree

I have these Texas Yaupon in my hunting lanes, I have to cut all my lanes by hand and the Yaupon just keeps coming back every year, I've got about 5 acres of hunting lanes I trim every year. All my trail trimmings after I'm done are about knee high and my tractor with a five foot rotary mower struggles to chop up all the trimmings. I've borrowed my neighbor's 3600 series Ford and it struggles. Getting tired of trimming my hunting lanes every year, wish there was a better way.

one thing to do is after cutting let it start to sprout back out and spray with a herbicide called Remedy, mix per instructions also use a surfactant to make it stay on the leaves. It may take more than one year of spraying to finally kill it out, beats cutting year after year.

I looked up that tree, appears native to Texas, produces caffeine, interesting.

What is a hunting lane?

As said to kill this Holly bush cut it down and spray the stump with Triclopyr or a mixture of Diesel and Triclopyr sold under the trade names of Garlon or Remedy.

It does make good wildlife forage especially for deer so you may not want to kill it all.

If you are trying to clear a entire field you can burn it if you have enough undergrowth to keep a fire going and then spray it with above as it re-sprouts.

(quoted from post at 13:07:04 07/28/18) You might try napalm. But I don't think even that will kill them. They can be very hard to get rid of.
ROFL
That's a good one! Dad used to hate those things. Not me - they stayed nice and green regardless of how dry it got. I remember Mom & Dad hearing someone from church say they'd just bought some at the local nursery. Thought they were gonna fall over when they heard someone actually paid good money for those things! *lol* Had no idea about the Caffeine though - not that it would have mattered either way.

[b:4186d0b9c9]David G[/b:4186d0b9c9] - When someone wants to put up a deer stand somewhere, they like to have a clear shot where the deer normally browse through - that's a hunting lane. Might also be a common term in other hunting, but I wouldn't know.

Wildlife love it.....birds eat the berries and deer will use it as browse. I know what your talking about it being hard to mow, like mowing re-bar! I encourage it on my property. I have several in my yard that I have made into trees (by trimming & shaping) & they are really pretty. It will do well in standing water or severe drought.

Agree.

We use a cordless drill to drill a few holes in the stump.

Fill the holes with <a href="http://www.dowagro.com/en-us/range/products/remedy-ultra">Remedy</a>.
