The hydraulics on terramite uses 10 gallons of motor oil. Manual says change
every 300 hours. I usually change it sooner. Manual says DON'T USE HYDRAULIC
OIL.

So Where do you buy your 10w30 or 10w40?

The cheapo store brand should be good enough. Walmart, Sears, Napa, What ever Or you could drive all over the city comparing prices and save a nickle.

Some evening, go online and check the prices at your local stores. Fifty cents a quart or $2 per gallon for ten gallons only $20. If you value your time at $20 per hour and your mileage at $0.50 per mile, you cant waste much time driving around to burn up any savings.

Yes, my Rural King and TSC, 5 qt bottle for around $9.50 plus 7% tax. Quart RK oil is $1.99. I think 5 gallon is more per gallon.

Sorry, I meant to say saving fifty cents a quart or less is not worth wasting a lot of time. I've been paying around $3 per quart for full synthetic at Menards, after $2 per quart rebates. I'm not sure I'm getting what the label says though, engines seem to consume the synthetic faster than normal.

If the pump, valves and cylinders are cheap to replace, go ahead and use the cheapest oil you can find. If they are like most hydraulic systems, they are not. So why would you buy cheap oil? And no, $3.00 synthetic oil is NOT real synthetic oil. A real synthetic oil can not be produced and sold that cheaply. Daddy was right when he said "You get what you pay for." I pay too much for my equipment to use anything but the best. I use a real 100% synthetic oil and double the change interval. Works out great for me with no failures. Oil analysis proves it.

I have worked on a lot of Terramites, have been to the factory where they are build and I have personally rebuild a couple of the hydrostats. As you said DO NOT USE HYDRAULIC OIL!!! I buy the oil at NAPA, which is VALVOLINE-8.99 a gal.

I have gone online. Checked all auto parts stores. TSC and Rural King are same price and cheapest. $9.50 for 5 quarts.

I suppose the 15-40 Delvac is a little too heavy, and I don't know if they have the rebate on 10-30, but I think I only pay about $25 for 5 gallons of 15-40 after rebate.

I use Rotella 10w30 and 15w40 and get it through TSc and several auto supplies (who ever has best price).

I saw Rotella at Rural King at a good price. I don't have a diesel. Educate me, is there anything in Rotella that could damage hydraulic components.
I did read where Rotella could be used in a gas engine that doesn't have a catalytic converter. So I could use it in all my tractors, lawn mowers, everything but my car and truck.

What makes Rotella special to use in diesel engines? Does it stand up better to higher temps?

I have been using Rotella since the mid 60s. I run it in every thing except the cars.My 95 Ford Super Duty has no cat converter but the 97 Gmc still has the factory converter on it with no problems. We went with Rotella in mid 60s after having valve problems with several farm tractors using a number of different brands of oil , We changed to Shell products and never had a valve problem since. The freight line I worked for (38 years) ran Rotella 15w40 in every piece of equipment with no problems.
