566 John Deere Baler Monitor Problem

I realize my problem trying to get my hay baled could be a lot worse but here it is. When the bale is finished and the alarm sounds, it wraps twine correctly but when finished and the alarm should sound to dump bale the battery icon just flashes. (Low voltage). I have to turn monitor off and back on and it works until next bale is finished. Not a big issue but just wandering if someone has it had this happen and if it may be a simple fix. Since powering it off and then back on and it works didn't think it was really a lack of voltage. Thanks guys Brett

Well rather than GUESS that the voltage is not dropping how about checking it. LOL When the wrap or tie cycle completes the electric actuators make there be an amperage spike when they "hit" the end of their stoke. Just a second or so but a spike. IF you do not have the monitor wired to a heavy enough supply or there is corrosion/bad connection, then you very well could have low voltage when there is a higher amperage demand. The reason the monitor does not show low voltage after being turned off and on is the baler has not placed a demand on the circuit yet. Just as soon as you tie/wrap a bale then there is an amperage demand and the voltage could easily be dropping. Then the monitor tells you about it again.

Your not rebooting a darn computer and everything is all better. Your just resetting the warning system in the monitor. So just MAYBE the monitor is working correctly and telling you that there is a problem.

You need to remember that the Monitor on a JD 66 series balers does not just monitor the baler. It POWERS the electric actuators so it needs more amps available. This is why when a person bought a NEW JD 66 series baler after owning a JD 35 series baler they needed the tractor's wiring harness to be changed to one that can carry a heavier amperage load.

If the voltage is not dropping then you may have to have your monitor repaired. Just send it to Ag Express as they can repair it in an economical fashion.

Where are you sourcing power for the monitor?

Some years ago, I helped a friend connect up the monitor for his new DEERE baler to a 4630 (I don't remember the baler model number) and the instructions were clear that it took a lot of power and suggested running the power wire from the monitor directly to the "hot" battery cable stud on the starter solenoid.

I agree with JD S, I'll bet when it ties and uses a lot of power the voltage IS dropping enough to irritate the electronics and set the "low voltage"code.

Thanks guys for the response. I'll check all connections and let you know what I find. By the way J. D. Seller that is a sharp looking 4440. Makes me not want to get on my raggedy 4430.

I'll 2nd the hard wiring the baler to the battery. Not a Deere but with my NH I had to do that. The newer balers just pull a lot of amps since the activators are all electric.
