1000 rpm on roller

I've run various 540 machines with 1000 tractors, using an adaptor. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The 4020 won't run my PTO alternator that way. The engine is running too slow to provide the necessary power. Magnum 7240 will run the 15' batwing. I can't remember the engine speeds, but I did whatever I had to, to get 540 PTO RPM from the 1000 shaft.

If by roller you mean round baler, your 1370 will run it great at half throttle. That engine has tons of low end torque.

Which baler are you using? Can it be converted to 1000 RPM PTO? Some machines cannot be converted to different PTO speeds, some can be converted by changing the main gearbox and the PTO shaft, some can be converted by flipping the gearbox over and changing the PTO shaft coupling.

(quoted from post at 09:06:44 07/25/18) I was just worried about twisting something out of it. I may try it.

Just be sure to calculate what rpm you need to run the tractor at....newer tractors with the economy pto do basically the same thing internally, but have rev limiters for safety reason. Make sure your pto shaft doesn't bind with the added length. I assume the baler has shear bolts or a slip clutch to guard against over loading....

Looking at a 535 and a 688 New Holland. I used to have an old Hesston and ran it with 200 Allis but pto clutches slipping in Allis, so I am wanting to see if I can put this 1370 to work. Cousin was rolling my hay but he is quitting.

Yeah but economy PTO only reduces the engine speed by 10 or 20%. Running a 540 implement on the 1000 shaft, you're closer to 50%. That's WAY down the power curve.

If the tractor has massive torque and the implement has suitably low power requirements, it can work.

A New Holland 688 requires an 80HP tractor minimum. Second Nebraska test shows a 1370 case produces 155HP at rated engine speed. Keep in mind though that torque/HP curves are not linear. Half throttle may not equate to half HP. It may have enough to run that baler, or it may not.

Yes. We occasionally ran a deere 430 Baler behind a 4640. Would work in a pinch, but running a lower hp tractor at pto speed worked better. Don't think I'd want to make a habbit out of it.

Friend was using a 1370 to run his hog barns generator. Worked good for a couple outages. Then couldn't keep the 60 cycles. Tractor had more torque than pto clutch. Put a 540 tractor on generator after that. Think was a 60 kw gen.
