47 John Deere A charging system

My AMP Meter only stays in the negative(around 10 volts) but only goes to the positive at full throttle.

The battery never charges.

To actually help we need to know serial number of tractor as the early 47 was the same as the 41-46 tractors as it was a 6 volt system and the late 47 was same as the 48-52 in that it was a different tractor with a 12 volt system. The 6 volt system had a low-high charge switch in light switch. the late did not. At least that was the way it was on my 46B and 49 B and 51 A. Then if you have an alternator conversion that changes things big time. So need more information.

Just remember the later A/B with 12 volt were still POS ground.

An AMP meter only reads current in amperes not volts. More info is needed.
