Rust in carburetor

(quoted from post at 06:42:35 07/21/18) JI Case,

Regular household vinegar worked for me,but it was an aluminum carb with rusty metal parts.

Never underestimate the cleaning power of common, white, household vinegar.

The works toilet bowl cleaner. If you do an alum. one be VERY careful as it will melt it in time !

I have cleaned a lot of cast iron carburetors with muriatic acid. Take the carburetor apart and dip each part into the acid for 10-15 minutes.
flush with water and blow dry the parts. will look like new. Never dip aluminum, you will not have a part left.
I have cleaned some carburetors that I thought they would never work again and they worked like new!

Muriatic acid also attacks brass, and some carburetors have small, brass metering jets that are not easily removed, and also no longer available as a replacement part.
