our small local fair is this weekend. I took my 504 and BN to add to the antique tractor exhibit. Linda and I rode in the parade on the BN this morning. This afternoon was the tractor and truck pull. I entered the 1456 in the 12500# out of field class (planned to take the 1466, but it weighed 13750 on my scales last night). I drew the low number for pulling order, pulled 211.54' in high 1, took the repull and did 218.86 in high 2nd. good for third place out of 4, which considering everything, made me happy.

Sounds like a good time. Love a good fair. One day I'm gonna try pulling with my Ford 960. But where's the picture, Bill?!?

Hi Bill, Sounds like you had a good time, if you would, please send me an e mail, I have a question about something we were talking about down in Alabama, Thanks, Adrian

my personal picture taker didn't stay for the pull. so, unless someone else at the fair got a photo, we are all out of luck.

I used to love watching the stock classes. I pulled my 630 JD once it was supposed to be stock but they didn't have enough entries so through everyone into same weight classes.

Sounds like you were in the correct gear for your second hook. Now just get it prepped for next year. Send your pump to Wimer's diesel in Sandy Lake PA. for the "mild" $2,000.00 upgrade. Then you should at least be competitive with those other guys.

I didn't run out of power- I spun out. hitch height only 16", 500# light for class. I think those are things to work on, maybe a little pump work, but if I had had a third try, I would have tried High 3.

With you hitch that low you might have done better in 3rd high, assuming that it is an eight speed. Before I got pump done I pretty much always pulled in sixth. Seventh was a long stretch. With your hitch up to the limit your tires will be much less likely to spin.

my concern with high 3 would have been starting the sled w/o stalling. although in high 2, the feeling was about the same as starting a chopper with a full dump wagon. the pull stopped quick when the pan dropped, so momentum would have been a plus.
