engine was stuck, got unstuck ,got started smokes a lot when you throw the gas to it. any ideas why?

My guess is some of the rings on th pistons are stuck, and letting oil by. Think I would start with a compression test. Could be one or all cylinders. Also in the process of getting the engine ? unstuck ? you may have broken a ring. I am no expert by any means, but these things just seem likely

Rings are still stuck in the piston ring grooves. Make the tractor work hard for awhile.

What did you do to get it freed up??? If it was me I would fill the cylinders with ATF and let it sit a week then pull the plugs and spin it over to clear the ATF out and then run it

thats a normal sinario with that quote and nothing to go by. so check the compression and post that. put it to work on a hard pull, pulling its guts out for a couple hrs. and run it hot but not enough to boil it.check compression again. need to get rings to seat again, or the engine can be just worn out. as i said need history of unit.

Assuming this is blue oil smoke...

Be sure the oil is not overfilled or contaminated with fuel.

Is there an excessive amount of smoke blowing out the crankcase vent tube?

If so, there is a problem with the rings, either still stuck, or broken, or the rings were worn out before it was parked.

Occasionally one will free free up and stop smoking, but it is rare. Usually it ends up fouling plugs, consuming oil, loosing compression until it won't be practical to run.

I did ask the same question, but it never got answered.

i do not like to assume an answer, as I have been wrong guessing so many times.

I too was going to recommend some snake oil in the oil to loosen the rings, but that, probably a waste of time.......butttt who knows......"The Shadow"......1940s and 50s radio programming. Those were the days as a kid. Imagination gone wild.
