What does everyone use for tractor insurance? I do not farm and only have 1 pulling tractor that is pretty much stock. Not a high value tractor but it does have alot of sentimental value and is in good shape. I have Geico auto insurance so I was wondering if anyone had tractor insurance through them and how you go about it? Thanks

Tom is just saying he just pays for anything out of his pocket, no insurance. This is ignoring the biggest risk. Liability!!!! I have mine under a farm policy. You need to be careful and make sure the policy covers "antique anything" many policies exclude antiques. Also asked if your covered pulling antique tractors??? Maybe later on a plow day. I have seen some policies that exclude farm activites.

I will list some companies to check into: Hagerty I have heard good things from antique car collectors using them.

Never thought about insuring my old Massey but you should check your homeowners insurance. Tractor may be covered for losses through that policy. Customer rep should be able to tell you.

Mine and all under a farm policy I declared the value on each of at the cost it would take to replace them

Mine are under my homeowners insurance. If I take them off my property they do not have coverage. You should be able to get a rider through your homeowners insurance. My insurance company asked for pictures. I think it is only about $50 per year.

Since retiring I have a homeowner's policy with State Farm. My tractors are (each) listed on a separate "personal articles" policy endorsement, covering on and off premises. Have about $120k, no deductible, my estimated value is listed plus they use Tractor Data numbers for verified replacement cost for $500/year. Covers everything but liability and where I use my tractors, country roads, farm equipment has the right of way. Don't expect to ever have to use it but for $42 a month, I consider it a good investment.....by eliminating my telephone land line years ago, that cost is already covered.

I have a mini farm policy with a cooperative in VT. They don't cover pulling competitions, but the membership in one of the clubs that I belong to covers that with a big national company. Self insuring something like a farm tractor is OK if you have an extra $20 million laying around.

Ask a lot of questions. Liabilty was my greatest concern. It makes a difference on what you are doing with the tractor at the moment. I have a gentleman's farm, so I have a farm policy. If U go to my church to blade the driveway, I am not charging a fee, so that us one situation. If I go help a buddy rake hay, that is another situation. If I am roading my tractor from field to field, that is another situation. If I am trailering my tractor, that again is another situation. My lawn mower is on homeowners, and can't leave my place, but if I am pulling it with my insured vehicle, it is covered. Tell your agent everything you plan to do and let him/her advise.

JD seller ...... you are 100% correct ...... property damage coverage is peanuts with an old tractor (ie insuring your own tractors for damage or loss) and most wouldn't even bother. But it's that liability thing that raises its ugly head now and then. And for those that think it'll never happen to them, think again. Sit back and imagine a situation that could never happen and then rest assured to know that it can happen and will happen somwhere, sometime.

This is a question you should be asking your agent.

If you don't have an agent, time to find one. It pays to shop around. Ask a lot of questions, let the potential agent know you are serious about giving him/her all your business. It's called "bundling".

Buying separate policies from different companies is very expensive, and they look at such with great suspicion. Their first thought is this person is going to try to collect on something he no longer wants. You have to establish yourself as a genuine consumer to get the premium quality insurance.

Years ago had a special farm policy that covered them

Only worried about liability. Covered me for shows pulling was covered by the club

Was worried about a kid climbing on a tractor and hurting themselves and wanted coverage. Was careful and never had an incident. Thank god
