Oil Filter Conversion Kit

I have a Ford 3000 diesel (1966 model) tractor and have been thinking about changing out the canister oil filter set up to the spin on type. I have read that doing this reduces the oil capacity by one quart. I also read where some conversion kits purchased did not fit the tractor (they were 1/8th of an inch too big). I have the following questions:

1. Do you recommend making the change to the spin on type?
2. Does the reduced oil capacity effect the engine in any way?
3. If you do recommend the change, where is a good website to buy the correct conversion kit?
4. How do I know which oil filter to use after making the change?

I greatly appreciate any help and advice that you may give.
 
I did one on my NAA, no problem but no change in oil capacity. It is much much easier than the canister given the tight space between the block and steering stuff. I put one on my MF 50 and it leaked no matter what I tried and the filter was hard to find so I went back to the canister. It isn't too difficult to install.

It is hard to stop it from leaking and seems it would be much easier for future oil changes. I am a rookie and just wanted some opinions.

Its more like a pint??... and yes, i would convert. No, it does not hurt anything as all newer tractors were converted. Newer hd diesels oils that suspend soot fixed any problems.
 
I changed a 3000 Ford tractor over to the spin on type filter about 15 years ago, I used Motorcraft FL-1A oil filters with it, as a mater of fact, I use the FL-1A filter on several of my tractors, 5000 Ford, 4000 Ford, 4500 Ford, 601 Ford, I buy the motorcraft filters at Walmart
 
If you use the larger spin on filter from a 7000, it is rated 2 qt. OEM p/n 86546609, Wix number 51601.
 
I bought one off ebay for about $35 for the 3000. The picture didn't show the gasket for the adapter to the engine but it's in the kit. No problem and my Motorcraft FL-1A or Fram PH8A screws right on. On capacity, yes it's less but I let the dip stick set the level.
 
If you are having trouble with the canister leaking after oil changes, there is something else going on. Not getting the old seal out of the casting groove,deformed canister,brass/copper washer/gasket on the top is worn out. And yes they will wear out after while. Lots depends on how much you tighten the bolt holding it all together. If the canister is a sideways one. It could be easy to get it on crooked so the can edge binds on the casting causing it to be deformed or crush one side of the top end.
