4020 brakes chatter

Brakes on my 4020 have always chattered / grind. Left tire looks up good right tire not so much but it works. All and all the brakes work. Wanted to see if any one else had this same issue

Run an oil that meets j20a or j20c the Cheap yellow bucket or
any 303 hydraulic oil makes them chatter

Brakes on your tractor will continue to
work even when worn out completely. It's
the resulting hydraulic damage that will
stop you. I would be pulling the finals for
a look see.

Just what is happening when they chatter and what is chatter and when is it bad? Example, if you apply the brakes moderately and they are quiet thats ok.....but if they make a very rapid tic-tic-tic..... How about if they wait till you are hard on them, like doing a spin at the end of a row and you're pivoting in your tire tread width?

Any readily available additives for brake chatter if yours chatter with 20C and at 900 hrs don't expect them to be worn out?

A lot of time it's because the rotor disc is warped,, the new replacement disc is thicker in the center and it helps with the chatter.. but you need to look to be sure,, my advice is to take a look at older brakes just to be sure,,it can save you a lot of grief..

I have replaced a couple on my 2510 and 2520's. Like Tim S said the new discs are thicker. After the replacements the chatter was gone in my cases.

Next is a 4020, then another 2520.

Assuming the brakes have never been changed in your 4020 it sounds like an update is in order. But, if you want to go at it more methodically, pull the pre-screen and see how much debris is in the bottom of the case.

I helped a friend change the brakes in a 2520. The bottom of the case was full, and I mean full of metal chips and scrolls of steel like you get off a drill press. The brake components were pretty much gone. Anyway we cleaned and cleaned and flushed with diesel fuel. The tractor was OK after that.

There are several approaches to changing the brakes. You can remove the entire tire, rim, wheel, axle, axle housing all in one assembly. Manipulating that much weight makes me nervous so I prefer to break it down somewhat. Tire, rim, and wheel as one assembly. Axle and axle housing as another. And, my lifting tools can handle that much better.

Good Luck.

Brakes only chatter when you are spinning as if trying to turn sharp with them. If you just barley press on pedal it dosent chatter at all only when you brake really hard

My question is on a newly purchased Ford. I had a 4020 30 years ago I guess and as I recall they would chatter but I forget under what circumstances.
I don't remember what fluid was in there or if I ever changed it.
