Massey Ferguson 275

I just bought a massey 275 tractor this weekend knowing it needs work. I have 2 questions about the tractor if anybody can help me out or point me in the right direction. First I'll start by saying I know very little about diesels so bear with me.

Question 1:
My power steering is leaking guy said it was the pump, I also noticed the fluid was a kind of milky pink color is that normal? Also it looks like it's got some pressure in there is that normal?

Question2:
The motor looks drenched in oil and the muffler has like a sort of black syrup coating around it, it also smokes a bit what does that mean? I'm guessing the injection pump is leaking oil into the fuel but not sure like I said I know very little about diesels. Any help would be appreciated TIA.

Welcome rafa2343!

First question, the pink color is air whipped into the oil from running low. The pressure you see is the air rebounding from being compressed when the engine is shut off. Once the leak is stopped the air will work itself out, doesn't hurt the oil.

There is a reseal kit available for the pump. Just have to determine what pump you have. It's not too difficult to replace the seals, just takes some patience, a clean place to work, and don't loose anything!

Second question, the oily engine could be related to the steering leak if the engine oil is overfull from the power steering pump leaking into the engine. If the oil is contaminated, once the pump is repaired, best change it. Also look for oil leaks, like the valve cover gasket or fuel leaks.

Another contributor to the oily exhaust is light use. Once it is put under a working load and up to temperature, it should dry out.

Are you talking about the black syrup around the muffler?
Because I gave it a good work out yesterday I was trying to dig with it so I'm sure it got a good work out. Also I just checked the dipstick and it has about a drop of oil. Thanks for the reply.

I'll try to get photos tomorrow for you guys since it just got dark here in Texas, USA and thanks for the help. I'm starting to think I just bought a big problem. But I'll hope for the best.
Also bare with me I'm new to this forum stuff as well and I'm messaging of my phone so it's more complicated.

The hard work out would be like plowing or any heavy tillage not digging holes necessarily. That sounds like the biggest problem for that, as for the steering need to clean it up some to tell where it is leaking pump, or some place else.

Truthfully I have never seen a massey that the motor was not covered in oil. Probably
was never cleaned since new a good pressure washing is due then you can see where it's
coming from.
