OT - Follow Up on Clogged Sink

Just wanted to post a follow up on my post last week and thank everyone for all the expertise. I tried a few different things. In the end, renting a commercial-grade power auger and applying a little persistence resolved the issue.

Did you actually find out what the material was or you had a big load of crap in your lines? If you can....stainless sink and no plastic pipe, here at work they inject almost live steam through the drain lines. Water is just under 200?f. Porcelain sink might crack and pcv would melt. Grease is a big pain in the rear. When water, soap, and grease become emulsified they take some heavy duty to break it loose. Nice thing when cleaning a tractor you can use a Hotsie steam cleaner.

No, never figured out what it was. Hit a few tough spots along the way with the auger. Strangely, the auger came out with virtually nothing on it. But the drain went from jammed tight as a drum to running fine for a few days now.

Sounds like a no-go on the steam; it's a porcelain sink and pvc pipes. Anyway, the help was much appreciated; it hadn't even occurred to me that I might be able to rent the tool.

One of our Training instructors at work recently down-sized to a suburban home near my Mom, I asked how things were going. He had an electrician over to wire up his new hot tub on the patio. Turns out the guy ran a ground rod right through the sewer line. A few days later, the bathroom started to back up. Fortunately, the homeowner was able to remove the cleanout in the basement and see the rod. A little digging and a relocated ground and all is better now.

Well just as long as everything is ship shape. Had a big fiasco with a clump of tree root in my line to the tank several years ago. Silver maple a good 40 feet away from the line. What i did was go on Ebay and bougbt several pounds of copper sulfate and sprinkle a nice pretty blue layer of crystals along the pipe. Will kill any roots. Actually that might be something you could get. Pick up a bottle of root killer at the store and follow directions. A tiny bit now and then down the drain should keep any roots out. Mostly copper sulfate in product. Works wonders on farm ponds and roof shingles in the shade. Kills all of the green molds and moss that grows.
