Starting New Holland 2120 without a key

We are trying to help a neighbor with a New Holland 2120 tractor. He has lost the key and wants help to get it going soon. Can somebody help us to know what needs to be done to hotwire it or does it run with a mechanical shutoff and maybe something like an oil pressure switch? This neighbor is not mechanically inclined, so he can't be of much help as to what is on the tractor. If we know what it takes then we can go knowing what to take to do the job. Thanks in advance.

New Holland dealer is 125 miles away and says they can't promise success. We just found out cattle took the key. I suppose they were hoping to go for a joyride.

Well, the key should be laying somewhere in that same pasture by now. Check the fresh ones first...

C'mon, someone had to.

The last key I needed for dads two year old new Holland boomer took two weeks to get here and 20$ plus freight

Had birds or something take my 4 wheeler key once luckily I had a bright key chain on it and was able to find it .

The easiest and safest way will be to find a key. Most Ford tractor keys should fit it.

The next would be to buy an aftermarket switch. It plugs in, not sure how hard to access the switch to replace it, but the electrical just plugs in.

If he really wants to hot wire it, the safest way would be to unplug the switch, make a jumper between the battery terminal and the ignition terminal. Then jump from the battery terminal to the start terminal until it cranks. There may be multiple connections at the switch, so proceed with caution!

I have the cattle pull the key out of my loader tractor all of the time. I finally take it with me between loads when hauling manure.

If it is anything like the larger tractors [4610,3600,ect.], you can start them with just about anything in the ignition switch. Screwdriver, house keys, sharpened stick...

Looking at the FIAT parts website, I see the 2120 model number has been recycled at least 3 times starting in 1964.

If your pal has the latest iteration of it, made by Shibura, it takes a 9849079 key.

There's about a million places on the 'net to get one, and any CNH dealer or CIH dealer probably has 'em in stock.

Here's a photo, even a local locksmith may recognize it and be able to help.

The Raccoons pull the keys for the 4 wheeler and the golf cart and leave them the on the floor. Used to pull the key and lay it on a flat spot under the hood and the mice would knock it off into the dirt floor.

Then the guy is an idiot, as ALL compacts from the first one through the last XX20 series take the SAME key. The did change the key on the XX30 and first gen TCxx, but even amongst those the key is the same.

The trouble is, if he's not mechanically inclined, bypassing allt he safety features is going to get him hurt.

Most farm equipment uses the same exact key for many models of tractors, you just need to get a replacement, that should be very easy. Nothing special to grind, jus to get a key for the model line.

If a dealer can't figure that out, or a locksmith, find a new dealer......
