Early LGP machine. Didn't Best and Holt get their start building first
wheeled LGP machines with wooden timbers bolted on to distribute weight
then started building track layers?
 
Not sure what it is but judging by the splatter on the side of it, one should be
very far away from it when they fire it up....

It is a rotary ditch cleaner/digger. You would drive it along a ditch and it throws the mud/weeds out of the ditch so it works better.

That's what I was thinking, but really just a wild guess for me.
 
You are both right. There is an article about it somewhere , as JD seller says used in California soft lands to clean ditches.
