Hay prices are still up

Sold some new crop grass hay that I cut on 5 June at the local hay auction for 185 a ton. Baled dry in 7 foot big squares. It was a lil overripe. They sold the same stuff last week for 165. I also took some to the next town north and got 130 the first week and 165 this week. Now I’m sold out of dry hay until 2nd crop. The rest of first is 6 foot wet wrapped

It does seem like the hay market has cycled up in the last six months. I am glad I/we have a lot of dry hay on hand. I have a lot of two year old hay that we wrapped. It is all third and fourth crop. Good stuff. I wrapped it after it had cooled after curing. Looks just like the day it was baled. At that time the most I could have gotten out of it was $65-75 a ton.

I am glad hay prices are rebounding. We need to get more acres into other crops than corn/soybeans. It is better for the soil and the farm economy on the long term. The grain jockeys and ADM do not get to "play" with hay sales. Also picking up more custom work is nice too.

Hay is nonexistent here. It's so dry here everyone seems to be running short. Pastures are burning up so we'll be feeding hay out to the cattle soon.

I have hay coming out my wazoo , and the market
here in South Central Ontario is flat. I tried to get
$40.00 a bale for good quality haylage bales , no
luck, one guy offered me $25.00 . I told him , no
thanks. We will just feed them first, most will go to
heifers and dry cows, got over 300 last year bales

Plenty of hay in my area I could buy all the round bales I'd want for $20 bale but make more hay now than I need every year.Does make good fertilizer just unroll it in the Winter in the pasture fields let the cows and goats eat what they want, lie on it and stomp in the ground makes for some great pasture grasses especially good for growing clover.I have some hay now cut down been rained on about 4 days in a row not many bales will take that bale it up and unroll it on the deer plots really improves the ground.

A wet cold spring held the grass back and we feed everything we had down to 2 junk rolls and two small squares.
So far every field I've baled has produced 20-30% less bales than average, I took on another 30-40 acres to get the bales I need because cows are eating down the pastures pretty fast, it looks like I'll be pasturing more hay ground this year meaning less second and third cuttings.

what I have put up of mine so far is running a 1/4 ton per acre,, my normal is 1-3 tons a acre we only get one cutting so hay is already high here,, cow hay is 120-160 right now

Bring it to southern lower Michigan. I've had a steady stream of calls wanting hay. Haven't advertised any since this time last year. 1st is all sold and about half my second is spoken for. Was a down year last year, and what has been baked is mostly over ripe from all the rain.

Best money I?ll make farming this year is the custom spraying and fieldwork I do for some neighbors! You?re right on that one

Not here you can't give it away. Looks like we are going to have another huge hay crop on top of everything
that is left over from the last 2 years.
