4 gallons of 90 weight dumped in my IH 706 by mistake

I see now the 706 isn't like the old M tractor and I made a big mistake of topping up the gear box with 4 gallons of 90 weight. Mechanic friend says drain all and fill with hy-tran. Another friend says just change the filter as it is still mostly hy-tran. I have 10 hours on the tractor since the mistake and the hydraulics work fine. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If I remember correctly that 706 holds 16-17 gallons of hydraulic oil. So 4 gallons of 90 weight would not make the entire volume of oil that much higher in viscosity. I would just run it for now. If you use the tractor a lot in the dead of winter then maybe change the hydraulic oil this fall. If not used much in cold weather I would just run it as-is.

like everyone says, run it unless you have some clutch discs running in it, I wouldn't even bother changing it for winter. you prolly ended up with30 wt. oil with the mix.

Thank you all for your input! I like the suggestions of least effort. The fall change and new filter will work
fine for this lazy old fat man.

Leave it. The tractor will be fine. You could add a couple of gallons of Hy-Tran as most of those
tractors are run over full. I ran my 806 and 856 4 or 5 gallons overfull

Probably not much difference than dumping a few gallon
Lucas hydraulic oil booster in it ( which I tried once and it was
a mistake )
