Beautiful car. I'm sure you're sad to see it go, but this getting older thing takes a lot of the fun out of playing with the old tractors and cars.

nicccee! i have a 52 chevy pickup for 21 years. as a younger person i had no fear of driving it anywhere, now at age 71 i get anxious drivng it very far. also, no power nothing and manual shift makes it hard on a bum left leg for clutching. oh, well it still looks nice in the garage. again, beautiful car.

Beautiful old Buick! And your right old cars and tractors aren't a money making venture anymore. All of my tractors but one are for sale. I can make more money buying and selling old shotguns than I can make on old tractors. And I don't have to work on them!

riverslim,

It's a beautiful old Buick!

That said...
It happens. We are in our 50's and have parted with quite a few of our antique toys (though we do still have a couple old plows and five old tractors).

And THAT said...
It's all just stuff - and we don't get to take it with us. So it's OK when we reach the decision to "move it on down the road".

Perfect Father's Day post. My day had a '56 Buick in about '58 or so. I was just old enough to remember what a cool car that '56. His was also a 2-tone, with a light green over the top of the white. Thanks for bringing back all the memories!

Dad had one for a while. I think that one was a 56,but it might have been a little newer. Does that one start by pushing the gas pedal all the way to the floor?

That was the car my parents had when I was born, a 56 Buick just like that, white over blue.

I remember the starter was on the gas pedal. That seemed strange, even to a 5 year old! LOL

I don't know why dad traded it off, but he got a 57 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser. A real lemon, constant trouble!

A good trivia question I have used with old car buffs ..... name the four series of mid-50's Buicks. Everyone gets Roadmaster, Special, and Century. The 4th one people seem to forget. Anyone name the 4th series?

That is one beautiful car! I hope you have some great memories with it and the new owner takes as good care of it as it shows that you have.

Buick Skylark, came out in 1954
Next time was in 1963, I had a 1964 Skylark sports coup, 340ci w/4speed trans.

I'd trade any tractor I've got for that Buick!! As a matter of fact, I'd probably trade ALL of them for it!! Nice car!

We had quite an adventure with a '55 Buick Super when I was about 16. Went on a trip, and the rear end gave out about 200 miles from home. Got towed to a junkyard/repair shop in Ephrata, Washington. Buicks had a torque tube driveline, and the owner of the yard knew that there were different lengths of torque tubes depending on the model. So we measured it up, and removed a replacement torque tube/rear end of the right length from one of the cars. Tried to put it under our car, and rear end was too narrow. Found one under a Roadmaster that was wide enough, but torque tube was too long. So we ended up changing out the gears in ours. By the time we were done, about 5 hours had elapsed. Mom made stew on the camp stove in his shop for everyone. I was most impressed by the owner's son- he was dressed to go out, but his dad said "We could sure use your help on this, son"- kid changed his clothes and helped through the whole ordeal, in good spirits and with nary a whimper. My dad paid $50 more than was asked.

I drove a 4-door one of them to pass my drivers license exam. It belonged to the school system, SEDT car.

Pete ...... that's the answer I would say was correct. I think the Super was 2nd in line for luxury. The Century and Special the two lower ones (not sure what order) and the Roadmaster at the top. I believe the Skylark was the convertible edition of the Roadmaster, not sure on that. Some of those other models that people have replied with are later versions I think (Invicta, etc). The one in the original photo with this post is a Special I think, maybe that's what the chrome script on the side says?

I know what you mean. I have always been a car buff but never been a show car guy. I had muscle cars back when you could buy one for $1000, race cars etc but have had none of it for 20 years. Last year I bought an 1988 IROC Camaro just to have a fun car to drive around. It's not a show car but is a clean unmolested original. Its a whole lot of fun to take my wife out on a date in it but keeping it spotless inside and out is a burden at my age!! I dont bend like I used to!!

I'm older than most guys but it just seems sad to see how time takes it's toll and so many things we used to enjoy we still would enjoy if we could get around like we used to. I suppose that is how it was meant to be. We raised horses for years and as of this May they are all gone. Had some real nice miniatures but now just a lap dog. Trying to survive cancer for a few more years. But hey, the ride has been great. No complaints.
