Rubber on steel wheels.

Some friends of mine have an Oliver or maybe Hart Parr potato planter that they want to restore and pull in parades with their 66. Their grandson wants to ride in the planter. I was asked how to go about putting rubber on it's wheels. I gave them my opinion about what I remembered seeing at shows and having truck tread bolted on. I'm sure some of you all have better advice than I was able to give them. PICs would help a lot. Thanks in advance. gm

Cut the tread area from w nonsteel belted tire. Use a sawzall,or chain saw(old tractor tires work great for this). Wrap the 'band' around the steel wheel. Drill/punch holes in the tire and bolt to the steel rim.

The rubber will help just a LITTLE bit on ride. Putting a cushion seat on would help more from a ride stand point.

Gary Mitchell,

We don't have our F-12 any more, so no pics - but my husband did as Delta Red describes in his reply below...
He used carriage bolts with the rounded head on the outside of the wheel to bolt on the strip of rubber he had cut from a tractor tire. I think that he also siliconed the rubber to the steel wheel before he did the final bolt-down.

It worked well and held up well. Just have to have several bolts around the wheel to hold the rubber down tight.
