Pondering on a Farmall MD.

Would like your opinions. There's a Farmall MD for sale down the road from me. It's been sitting outdoors for quite some time. Metal work is in good shape, tires are shot but I have some laying around. Engine will not turn by me pulling on fan. I know they can be a money pit but for some reason I've always wanted one. Guy is asking 1000 for it but said he would work on the price. What's your guys thoughts?? Is it worth messing with?

Unless somebody has started making them since Sept 2017 when I left work on medical there are no sleeve kits available unless you find somebody with old stock. Mahle/Clevite and FP Diesel/Federal Mogul had both discontinued making them.

What area are you in? I have a couple very good md tractors that run perfect let me know if the one your looking at is stuck run away don?t walk to overhaul one is least 6k

I'm in NW Ohio. Don't know how TIGHT it is but you never know. I'm a pretty good wrench but if it's not worth it might have to pass on her.

Stuck it is worth scrap price. The odds of it being able to be made to run with no rebuild or disassembly is 50/50. The machine is interesting (I am a former owner and it was stuck but did free up and ran well. I sold mine for 1800 with a custom 3pt hitch. 20 years ago! Jim

I've wanted one for YEARS, but realized I don't have the financial wherewithal to be the owner of an MD.

If it was given to you, the costs to get it in prime form would not be pretty.

Mite be better to find one for sale that's already had the $$$ spent on it and needs to find new home, IMHO.

Just my $.02. I think you'd be money a head to find a running one that needs a new home. I bought a non running SMD and it was crazy money to rebuild it. It is one of the neatest tractors I own.

A company called LA Sleeve can fabricate them to order Not irrational cost. Good people. call them. Jim

Thanks for all the replies. I decided to pass on the old girl. I feel she's just to far gone. From what I've seen for sale,I could buy a running one for half of what id spend on this one.
