Good morning tractor mechanics I need help Massey Ferguson industrial 30 transmission is three speeds high-low range forward reverse hand shifter on the right the forward reverse shifter comes out of gear what's the problem thanks Mike

Does it come out of gear when its moving? can you feel the detent lock the shifter lever when you put it gear? Need to more of what's happening exactly.

Hold the shuttle shift lever in forward and see if it is grinding or jumping in your hand, do the same in
reverse, if the shuttle will stay in gear with just minimal hand pressure and no jerking then the problem
is probably weak or missing shuttle shifter pin springs.

Hi LAA,thx for your reply. It comes out of gear as soon as you engage the clutch and like you said with very little hand pressure it does stay in gear I did have the tractor tore apart and a clutch put in and that's when this started. Where would the spring and spring pin be located on the slide mechanism. Thx Mike

hey ptfarmer, I don't think this tractor has a detent spring for the forward reverse lever I did have that cover off and of course I couldn't see anything wrong but I didn't know what I was looking at this tractor has 3 detent Spring, the three gears you can feel the detent and the high-low range it will come out of forward and reverse gear when you engage the clutch but with slight hand pressure will stay in. Thx Mike

Your 30 should have the shuttle shift lever up by the steering wheel, that linkage over time gets sloppy, or you lost the little bushing(s) in the bracket that holds the lever.

My 2135 industrial had a very similar linkage setup, but I didn't like the fact that when you moved the shuttle lever forward the tractor went backwards (that's how mine was), and it went forward when you pulled the lever back. I took all that linkage off, and welded a lever to the shuttle shift. You have to reach down to use the shuttle shift, but when you put the lever forward the tractor went forward. It's not really that inconvenient having the shuttle lever down lower for me.

Good morning LAA, I think I have a photo uploaded if I can finish it up and it does seem that your explanation is the closest but I don't understand where the spring and pin might be thanks Mike
