3308 brushhog .brushhog brand gear box leakung

I bought a brand new 3308 pull type brushhog one of the gearboxes keeps puking oil out the breath cap after about twenty minutes to a half hour of operation.i flipped flopped the breather with the other outside gearbox breather and the oil leak stayed with the same gearbox.dealer came picked it up took it in and put a new breather on it.i told him I switched them but maybe he had to find out himself.got it back and the same gearbox still leaks.im going to call him back in the morning.only thing I can think of is the bearing is to tight causing it to run hotter and build pressure.thought I would run it by you guys to see if anyone ever experienced this.
Thanks Rick

Hi Rick. I have the previous model 3008-2 and have never had any problems. Yours being brand new I would demand a new gear box! They are way to expensive to have any problems on a new one. Your dealership should make the factory stand behind the machine! By the way they are a beast! What tractor do you run with it?

I can't say this is your problem, but water is a common problem with mower gear boxes. New or old, they set outside, and water gets in. This is bad because there's no drain. And the water will settle to the bottom, right next to the most critical bearing, and seal. The only way to drain a gear box is to remove it and set it upside down. Possibly there's some water in there causing the oil to froth up a little.

As Bob stated it could be water in the gear box but I would hope the dealer would of checked that when they picked it up to take it to the shop. You must have a lot of weights on the front of your New Holland T4020. That is a 1800 pound bush hog. I have my 3008-2 on a Ford 5000. The front end will tend to float on my 5000 with no weight.

I have 2 of the 3008 models also, one with close to 2000 hours and no gearbox problems. I bought the second one when I heard they were coming out with a new model. ...

I think if you wipe the shaft where it goes in with a gob of grease it will repel the water from being drawn in.

Need to get it worked on while the warranty is in force,my neighbor had his do something similar to what you described messed around with it until after the warranty ran out and the gearbox finally went out he had to buy the parts and I helped him fix it.

Mine us pull type no front-end issue.thasnks for the replys .I will mention the water theory to the dealer.thanks Rick

Fifteen dollar infra red thermometer for Harbor freight will prove if it is running hot or not. Maybe dumb but has anyone checked to make sure it is not just too full.
