OT Ball joints

I had an upper ball joint come out of the upper arm on a 98 Dodge Ram 2500. How likely is it I can simply press a new one in or should I replace the upper arm? Thanks.

was it bad?? then you might be able to press new one in.. Im doing my 250 this weekend.. both sides and 4x4 ujoints..if your bored and have nothing to do...:p

No personal experience with that model, but typically if the ball joint is sold separately, it is replaceable.

If only sold as an assembly, it is not.

If it literally ?fell? out,I would have a hard time trusting a new one not to do the same. If you go ahead and try it, and it goes in easy, the arm should be replaced.

u talking about the ball popping out of the joint due to wear , which is what usually happens when lack of grease happens and excessive clearance results. you just need to replace the ball joint.

On some Fords, the ball joint is replaceable but needs to be tacked or welded to stay in place because the A arm metal is so thin.

The thing is if the arm that holds it might have had the area that holds it get enough dammage it will not hold a new one and how to tell if that dammage has happened. Most are thinking joint came apart, not came off mounting that the A arm is. and if that A arm is still usuable or not. Need to think deeper.
