Lady Be Good

Remember reading <a href="https://www.damninteresting.com/the-remains-of-lady-be-good/">this article in Life magazine</a> as a kid.

Article had a photo of each of the crew members' remains covered with an American flag.

Some images you don't ever forget as a nine year old kid.

Turned 67 last month.

Also remember the photo of the rocks they formed in the shape of an arrow pointing in the direction of their travel.

In addition to the photo of the inside of the wreck of a canteen with water.

A truly heart-breaking story.

Apparently linking to a PDF in an email message is a bad idea.

Below is a link to a Wikipedia article about the Lady Be Good tragedy.

There are parts of the LBG in the Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH. Right behind the intact B-24. Kind of buried with the recent construction and rearranging.

Interesting.

Amazing that perhaps all remains were found, assuming the fella the British buried was the missing one. It's a big desert, with shifting ground.

Seems more tv and movie stories were, perhaps loosely, inspired by this than what was listed.

Two C130A models from the 322nd air division based at Evreau Fauville air base France went into the desert and landed at the scene of the wreckage. The men picked up and brought back to Evreau several pieces of gear.I saw one main tire/wheel assy. and a .50 cal. waist gun. There was more stuff brought back but that's all I saw.For years I've wondered what ever happened to the gun and wheel assy. Maybe thats what is at the USAF museum.

Interesting, Aaron.

I lived in Dayton for over 20 years and have been to the Air Force Museum multiple times but not lately.

It's on my list of things to do again, and I will look for the exhibit.

I linked to your first input and when it came up it was some kind of flowers and songs. I killed it and did a Safari (browser) Clear on my imac to get rid of any critters associated with it. Well I have a bug! Now, what is it and how to get rid of it.

I won't be opening any more links in this site!
