Smoked Ham Hocks???

I made a grocery run today.

When I slow cook my soupbeans I have always used a 'smoked ham hock' for flavoring. The store was out of hocks but, they had 'smoked pork neck bones'.

I got back and was packing away stuff for the freezer when I noticed the 'neck' bones had a pretty good amount of meat on them (more meat than the hocks). I like a little meat with my soupbeans and buttermilk cornbread.

Have y'all ever used 'smoked pork neck bones"? and what did you think about 'em?

Yes, They are very good and will go good in your soup.
I get them when available at our meat market that smokes their own meats.
I love picking at bones.
They don't sell the best but most of the time they have some they have smoked and have them in the freezer.
One thing they make and is my favorite is what I call bacon on the bone.
They do a whole rack of ribs the same way they make their bacon.
I sometimes take some of that meat and add it to homemade baked beans and homemade potato soup.

Yep I buy neck bones when I can find them locally but most times all you can find is hocks. There is a big meat market about 25 miles from me and they always have them and a lot more stuff I can't find close to home. They cater to the Hispanic people in the area and have a lot of different cuts of meat. One thing they do have that I love are beef ribs cut across the bone in half inch thick strips. One of my contractors told me about them and I've been cooking from time to time for years. I marinate them overnight and then cook them for about 30 minutes on the big grill then I make a port wine reduction add that to some green peppers and onion and put all of that with the meat in a big cast iron pot and put it back on the grill for about 3 more hours. Man that is some good eating!

I do not buy hocks or necks.
I eat a lot of ham so I just buy a ham butt; cut off what I want for sandwiches or to put in a salad ect; then throw what is left in a pot of beans.

Red kidney beans with plenty of creamy sauce; a hunk of ham; topped with New Orleans chow chow; and some white bread to sop up the sauce.
Dang now I am really hungry.
