looking for a quick fix,the starter drive gear broke on my 1963 massey ferguson 65 today.it has a 12 volt system with a fairly new 12 volt starter that i cannot find any ID #'s but was told by previous owner that it is new.i also have a ferguson TO30 with a 6 volt system and starter.my question is can i swap the TO30 6 VOLT on the 65 12 volt system safely till i get the starter drive fixed on the 12 volt starter.thank you,any info is welcome

(quoted from post at 07:08:17 05/20/18) If it's just the 6v vs 12v thing that you're concerned about, you won't hurt it.
i have not taken the starter from the TO30 out yet to compare starter drive gear tooth count. the drive gear from the 65 is completly gone.if anyone knows how many teeth or if both are the same and if both spin the same direction.looks like both starters are of same diamention

thanks guys,i will remove the starter from the TO and measure the lenght of the nose,if it is the same i will give it a try.is it a big job changing the starter drive?

I have seen a few starters that were 6 volt completely broken in two. Bendix drive ripped apart by running 12 volts into them over a short period of time. you get the same effect by running 220 volts in to a electric motor that was built to use 110 volts.

Think the 30 has the starter on the left side and the 65 is on the right. 65 will have a 10 tooth drive. Can't remember what the 30 is.
