58 TO35 3 point issue

Good evening! Thank you for looking. I just bought a 1958 TO35. The 3 point hitch moves slowly up and shudders all the way going up, but is smooth and fast with weight going down. It holds weight on the way up and doesn't creep (at least my 190 lbs). The dipstick behind the right foot is full, it looks a little cloudy (not white or milky) and I'll be changing it. This is my first tractor, so I'm not sure if this is common, hoping for some advice on possible causes/fixes. Thank you for the time! I can post some photos tomorrow if it helps.

Maybe this will help:

Common problem with those.

Broken valve in the hydraulic pump.

A shop manual will walk you through the process. Not difficult to remove the pump, no need to split the tractor.

You will need to remove the top cover (under the seat). It is heavy, the valve control linkage extends down on the right side, visible through the round cover. Be careful not to damage the linkage handling the cover.

The pump can be rebuilt, but it is a tedious job. The repair kit I bought was not in spec. Had I not had access to a surface grinder and lathe it would not have worked. I would suggest buying a rebuilt pump. More expensive but should be ready to install and go. Select the pump carefully by the serial number and date of mfg. There have been several changes.

While the top cover is off, would be a good time to inspect the lift cylinder piston, rings, and bore. Common for the cylinder to be scored and leaking.

Also there is a rubber boot on the top link. It will probably need to be replaced, easier with the cover off. If the boot is bad water will enter the gear cases. There are some critical adjustments involved in reassembling that, a shop manual will be necessary.

When reinstalling the cover, the lift linkage must be guided into position and adjusted, again the manual will walk you through this.

As for oil, the original oil was 90 weight mineral oil. That will work for warm weather use but slows everything down in cold weather. Most change over to 10w 40 engine oil.
