I am curious to know if you can buy recaps in tractor tires like 15.5x38 or 18.4x34 to save some money? I think now they call them remolded tires now. Is there any other way you can some how renew your tread on older tires rather then tossing them away and buying new?

I've never heard of recaps for tractor tires. Might look into blemish tires. Any time I looked they were close enough to full price it wasn't worth it though.

Never heard of a recap tractor tire.

A couple reasons, the high torque applied to the tire would rip the recap off, and usually by the time one is worn out, the casing has received some type damage and is getting rotten.

company in western ohio does recaps.i had a pair of firestone 16.9x38 deeptread casings recapped, they put the field and road 23 degree tread on them, this was id say 25 yrs ago, held up as good as new tires would

Used to be able to and I have one on a tractor now but have not heard of it for the past 30+ years. Mine is a 11.2x28" Was on tractor when I bought it.

A company near where I live vulcanizes big equipment tires and apparently some tractor tires. Anyway I have one tire here that once was punctured and repaired with some such method and know of some more. B and R Retreading in Glasgow Ky. I don't know if they do work for private indiviuals

Did you ever see how tires are made? ALL tires are recaps so to speak in the way they are made. They start with a form upon which they build the structure of the casing. Cords are wrapped, belts are placed, and the casing is wrapped with sheets of virgin rubber. Then the tire is molded to size in a heated mold. Next, the tread rubber is applied and the tire goes into another mold where it is vulcanized and finished. Recaps go through a similar process. First the old tread is stripped off. Next, any flaws in the casing are repaired. At this stage, broken belts or cords can be repaired or replaced. Then the tire goes through the same procedure as a new tire. Tread is vulcanized and bonded onto the casing, and the tire is completed.

There was an episode of Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe that had him working in a tire factory where they showed all of this.

I spent 22+ years selling and installing tractor rears. I could never find any one to recap rear tractor tires.
