Yesterday I did my yearly mowing at our community cemetery. This Saturday, we get together and cut the weeds around the graves by hand. I mowed the area not yet filled up. Most of my family are buried there, several generations back. Stan

I did mine also mowed edge of road scrapped gravel off road where it washed down the hill, plowed snow off corners in winter. This spring some of the ditches were filled with grass and dirt took little deere and dug out the spots where the water was forced onto the road. County commission must have took notice they came by last week and cleaned all the ditches out.

When I was a kid (I'm 70) our little rural cemetaries had a yearly "pcinic" we called them to raise money, Food stand, local music groups. Mostly a social where you see everyone in the community and beyond. Highlight of the year for us kids.

We are going to do ours next Sunday afternoon. Last week we put up a sign requesting that folks who bury ashes notify the sexton, with so many cremations, and many families have owned their lots for years, they just come and bury ashes, and it's not legal. We also put up a sign stating that the cemetery is cataloged on findagrave. Anyone else contribute to findagrave? We have been working on it for 5 years.

There is about a one acher cemetary three lots over from me. Last summer I mowed it four times. This year was mowed once already. Have been doing it for maybe ten years now. Not real fancy mowing with string trimmers and stuff, just pickup the dead fall twigs and branches to keep it decent. Most of the mowing is straight back and forth. Kinda neat to see the dates and names. Last burying was almost 20 years ago. Came up behind this truck this morning.

There is a small chance not far from my place that has graves from 1850s to present times. When I was in high school my brother and mowed itvfor the season for 1000$ that was about 1995 1996 we thought we won the lottery. They have a day called the "work bee" each year about this time of year. It was cool to read all the grave stones.

Ours will be mowed once a week till it get too dry to grow. We will have someone on the grounds from Friday till Monday afternoon to collect money. We should get $3,000.00 for upkeep. Plus the board members all do whatever we can for free.

our local township will donate some money ever year to help fund cemetery association as they have very little money to use we have several small cemeteries in our township I don't think they get many tax dollars
