My Silverado 1500 with Max trailering package shows 9.76 rear axle, what does that mean? I am thinking that my rear axle ratio is 3.73.

9.76 is the diameter designation not the ratio. Looks like the 9.76 inch diff could be 3.23, 3.42, or 3.73 ratio. Plug your VIN into one of those decoders available on line to find out what is was supposed to have.

Not too sure if VIN code will tell you the axle ratio.

But the RPO codes found inside the glovebox door will.
There are at least three codes that equal the 3.73 rear axle:
GS3
GT4
H05
You can google "GM RPO code decoder" and find numerous sites that can tell you what all the codes on your RPO label stand for.
Some are a list of codes
Some you enter a code and it then tells you what is what.

9.75 inch diameter ring gear, heavier than the gears in pickups without the Max trailer ing package, could be a number of ratios.
