John Deere 5203 IPTO Slipping

A friend has a JD 5203, has about 500 hours, and the pto clutch is slipping. It would not even make 1/2 a roll on a small Hesston 530 baler before it quit turning the pto shaft. Switched baler to another tractor, worked fine with no problem.

Was wondering how the pto clutch was designed and operates in this model? Is anyone familiar with them? Do they adjust? Am I correct in thinking that these tractors are built in India, if that even matters?

I was afraid to post this on the JD forum...

Thanks, Garry

I am not a expert on these tractors. But a
friend has one and he had the same problem.
The pto clutch is up front with the engine
clutch. Think this is a problem with them.
Our dealer thinks this will happen again.
He was using it on a 10 in corn auger. 7

The parts catalog lists it as a LUK 11" clutch. Key #12 is the PTO lined plate.

It may say Deere on the hood, but I would never buy one made in India. I bought one made in Mexico, and that was a mistake...

Garry, shoot me your email I have a pdf of the I have a PDF of the technical manual for your tractor, if wanted, shoot me your email. Manual
you?re welcome to

It may not be the clutch. Look at where the PTO lever mounts. On my 5203 that bolt gets loose and it acts just like a slipping clutch because it is not fully engaged.
