How does this disconnected fuel safety switch work?

Hello camozzi04,

Looks like a solenoid valve. Plunger or disk inside moves for on or off.Probably
spring loaded for on or off positions. Power applied and case ground,

Guido.

That's a Murphy switch gauge setup.

The solenoid is connected to temp and oil pressure gauges. If
the engine overheats or looses oil pressure. One of the gauges
complete the ground circuit. Which trips a circuit breaker type
box that kills power to the fuel shut off solenoid. The solenoid
closes and shuts off the fuel supply.

Interesting to know. I’ve got two electrical prongs on the oil pressure gauge. No electrical on the temp gauge. Can it work off just oil pressure? This is a 236 cid Perkins. Not the original owner and theirs been some hodge podge I’ve noticed.

Yep, it can work just off one gauge. Some irrigation engines
also had a vacuum gauge that would shut the engine off.
