Whats with the unusually long front wheel lug nuts?

Some semi tractors have lug nut that stick out about 6 inches. Why would the nuts need to be that long?
1. OO7 style to tear up anybody who tries to cut in too soon?
2. just have them to have the Leo s ask stupid questions?
3. maybe getting ready for duals on the front? LOL

just styling something different than the usual acorn style, under the cap the lug is the standard one
 
Doesn't look like they would be legal. I mean they made auto manufacturers to quit putting rigid hood ornaments on vehicles in case they hit a pedestrian. Even if they snap off it would do a lot of damage to someone's leg if they were hit.

They are just plastic, or sometimes light
sheet metal. They are decorations only and
couldn't hurt anything.

You stick your leg out there when they go by and tell us there're just plastic.
 
The difference in distance between hitting
those plastic cones and the heavy steel lug
nut underneath is about 1 1/2", and If your
that close to a truck you will get hit by
the drives and trailer anyway, so those
plastic cones will only hurt for a second
or so before you get flattened.
