Small Antique Crane - WHAT IS IT??

Does anyone know what this is? According to owner it has a Diamond T (IH) special 6 cylinder engine in it. I have a video of him operating it too. Really neat machine although it looks to have its limitations.

The A on the hubcap, seems I recall Austin-Western or Austin as an equipment maker. I think the IH engines were the Black Diamond and/or Red Diamond series.

The Millwrights in the big 3 auto plants used something very similar to move and place machines as well as Fork Trucks.

(quoted from post at 05:15:52 05/03/18) The crane looks to be a Trackson swing crane.

Ok. I tried looking up Austin Truck Cranes and didn't come up with anything like it. What about the "A" on the hubs though??

(quoted from post at 03:11:56 05/03/18) Yes. A JX series Hercules.

Are you saying the crane has a Hercules engine? It looks like it says Diamond T Special on the manifold to me.

Definitely not a trackson swing crane. All of those looked like they were on tracks/crawlers and this one is rubber tired (truck crane).

How could the manufacturer prevent an owner from mounting it on wheels once he owns it? If I owned something and in order for it to do the job I needed to make major changes I would go ahead and make them.

Showcrop, you're correct but to me it looks like it was made that way. Looks too nice to be cobbled up but I'm not sure.

What is it with all these sideways pictures? Can it be fixed?

I'm not seeing any sideways pictures. Not sure what you're talking about. The crane runs and operates. I have a video of it! Just trying to identify what it is

When posting from a smartphone or ipad, pics show up sideways for some. On this computer at work they are sideways, on my iphone
they are right.

Is there a fix for this? That can be annoying and I apologize. 90% of my posts have to be from a smartphone.

I was not directing my comment to you. I see the sideways pictures many times, from many different folks.

I know but it is very annoying when I see them too. I understand. Thanks for bringing it to my attention because i wouldn't have known it was doing that.

(quoted from post at 22:05:12 05/03/18) Do you turn your phone when you make the pics? That use to be a problem, but I dont know if its that or not now.

That might be it john.

Back to the original question: DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT MAKE THIS MACHINE IS OR HAVE ANY INFO ON IT??

RTR, all I did was google Trackson swing crane, clicked on pictures, then went back and forth between your pics and the ones of many tracksons, It was easy to see that yours is indeed a Trackon mounted on some who knows what wheel chassis.

Ok. I'll do a little more research off that. I've been looking on a cell phone and you know how that is. Been on the road last few days. Maybe I can figure out the chassis by the engine and hubcaps?? I'll see why I can find. Thank you

Very nice!

Looks like it's rigged up for outriggers on the crane end. Probably good if you swing it under load.

Late to the party but the crane definitely looks to be a Trackson swing crane. My grandfather and father had a rigging business (mostly textile machinery) and had one mounted on the back of an early 50s Brockway and then a 66 International cabover. The boom was probably 20 feet long. Used it until 2000 and send sold in to a marina in southern RI. Wouldn t doubt that he was still using it.

Good evening: On my computers, If I right-click on the picture, a box pops up, and I can select to load the picture in a new tab, which is what I usually do. Then click on the new TAB and the same image will be displayed, but right side up (unless the original was actually made sideways or whatever). Mostly it works....
