http://forums.yesterdaystractors.com/viewtopic.php?t=1348558&highlight=ramjack

Ramjack showed up today dug 4 holes 4ft deep ran these big screws 15ft in the ground.

The engineer specked how far they should go 1100 lbs of pressure to run them in the ground the crew leader ran them till they just about would not turn 2000 lbs he said that would grantee he would not be back for a re-do. All but one ran out at 15ft one got tight at about 13 ft.

Hole in carport I did not know it had been poured 3 times I thought 2 first rod ready to set.

Once the screws are set they put a jig on the top and use bottle jacks to jack it the foundation. Nuttin to it they jacked it up EZ as pie...

Once the house is leveled back up the jig is anchored down jack removed.

Crew leader ask have I parked anything heavy under the carport I said yes my new to me diesel pick'em up... He said the weight of the concrete got it about a 11/12" slab and DAT truck. NO issues were seen with wash out are water what I suspected... They worked like they were fighting fire never skipped a beat no one leaned on a shovel in and out in 5 1/2 hr not including a lunch break and no cell phone calls taken... I stil have a crack in the brick work tho :( will have to fill it in...

They appear to be Hispanic from pics and that is how they work. Recently had some patios poured and even a little 8 year old with them
worked like that. Puts a lot of us Americanos to shame.

Interesting pictures, thanks for posting. Is everything filled with concrete? Or what keeps the steel from rusting through in ten years and the house resettling?

er, no

I had a house do that once and I sold it ASAP. Around Wichita KS many settling problems are caused by LACK of water, not too much. Our clay shrinks and settles in the summer if it is dry and many folks have to water their foundations in a dry spell. Your fremch drain would kill my current house.

My thoughts also, Andy, I was thinking at least the screws and feet would be
stainless, or at least galvanized coated. (Maybe cost prohibitive?)

Sure. When I was eight I worked in the fields doing manual labor from daylight till dark. But he was helping his dad at my house and I didn't run him off. Do you have a problem with kids learning to work?

Yes I have a problem with underage minors illegally working on my house .Yes I have a big problem with that. I live in the USA :here is no child labor .We have laws for that!

I was visiting one of my daughters in Fl.The next door neighbor was having new pavers put in.Contractor arrived in a tractor trailer with one those 3 wheeled forklifts at the back of the trailer and enough pavers to do the job.His helper couldn't have been more than 8 or 9 years old but he was fully checked out on the job.He ran the fork lift, respoted the 18 wheeler when needed and set the stones. He did it all and was hustling the whole time.

I understand about potential liability especially with kids but I made sure contractor was independent and not an employee of mine where the
exposure could be more severe. The kid just came with dad on Sat and helped out probably to earn some money from dad. I made sure not to
be involved with him or direct him to do anything.

Maybe we need to have laws for that? Teach em to work when they are young, you sure as hack can't teach em to work once they are adults. Biggest reason this country is in the shape it is in!

Every thing looked over built the pipe was 3" X 1/4" thick the brackets and feet on the screw was 1/2" plate. I doubt it will ever be my problem again...
