How can I replicate this wall skim coat? It needs to be approx. 5/16 thick in order to match in where some has come loose. the underlying plaster was not primed so I have had to pull some down to replace it.

I know the basic idea but I can't find any way to make it have this pattern when done.

(quoted from post at 17:14:08 04/28/18) try to splash some on with a wisk type small broom,,then flatten it with a smooth trowel

Can I get 5/16 thick by splashing it on?

Find an old 'Lathe and Plaster' guy - hard I know, but I did a reno on a Heritage house (civic sponsored) some years ago and came up with a gent that matched all the surfaces perfectly, including some gravel textured stucco on the gable ends. A suggestion. HTH

Popcorn textures have pretty much gone out of style, but in this old farmhouse, the wife did a GREAT job with plaster fixes. She or I would patch the missing plaster and let it dry, smoothing close to what was there. Then she came back with mud and used a texture roller to apply texture over entire ceiling. Looks a lot better than it did, that's for sure!

Both of us have tried to match texture before, but it's really hard. You can always tell where the patch is. Just have to decide if you want to get as close as you can, or just change the entire texture.

Patch the bad place and then skim coat the whole wall with a 10" knife, let it dry and then skim coat it with a 12 " knife. You will have a beautiful smooth wall!

Sorry Showcrop.
I don't have an answer for you.
It's one of the main reasons I don't care
for textured surfaces as they are so hard to
match.

OK, thanks. That is what I was afraid of. It looks like I will have to skim the whole sealing like KCM and rip said.
