1953 IH Farmall Super C

Does someone know if I can remove the crankshaft pulley from my 1953 IH Farmall Super C tractor with the engine in frame?

Going to be very difficult with out
removing front end and radiator. You will
have to come up with some sort of puller as
well. I couldn't get mine with conventional
puller. Finally resorted to drilling a
couple holes in the pulley across from each
other, using bolts a heavy piece of strap
iron, and deep sockets to make a home made
puller. My pulley was very tight and
difficult. Used an impact wrench on bolts.
As I remember, getting nuts on bolts on
backside of pulley was a challenge. Nuts
lodged in such a way that a wrench wasn't
needed.
I'm sure a real Farmall mechanic can tell
you an easy way to do it.

Easy is not happening. The tractor must be supported at the rear of the engine on the clutch housing (wooden supports). The front casting must be removed. A bearing
splitter should be used (or a special pair of 1/2" plates made to cross behind the pulley. A two bar heavy puller is then used to push on the center of the crank snout.
(remove the bolt!!) heating the pulley carefully with a propane torch gently and uniformly at the back to warm the area at the snout, not the V part of the pulley. Some
come off with moderate force some don't. I have seen them take a 40 ton press to get loose with the crank hanging down in the structure. Jim

I am just going to through this out there for what it is worth, you can replace the mains and rear seals with out removing the crank. That might not be an option for you.

Not replacing bearings, cylinders or pistons. My tractor has bad valves, guides and seats etc. Had the head worked over and milled. Leaks hydraulic fluid BAD from plate behind pulley. Thanks for the reply. Hope your project goes smoothly.
