Not my tractor nor do I know owner. Unit is along highway 50 southern Ind. Know the thing has been in same spot for forty years. When I first noticed it was good shape and appeared as it would start and drive,

I bought a tractor that had sat 30 years in the same spot once i still have it needs a new crankshaft I paid 900$ and ran it for 2 years

the sad part of this Wilson is 40 years ago both that 4010 and that corn picker where new!! back then they spent a lot of money buying and setting that unit up, WHY would you just park it and walk away leaving it to sit there and rot?? why not sell it to someone who could use it? put it to work, take the picker off and use the tractor?? this sort of thing just makes my head hurt :x we see the same thing up here, new expensive equipment parked and just left to rot in the weather. I just don't get it, the equipment I have accumulated over the years I bought to use, I have work for each piece. if I don't need a piece any more I put it up for sale and move it on to the next person who needs it. :?

You're a little too optimistic about our ages, carvel!

Last 4010 was made in 1963, making it 55 years old!

in 1963, I was 6 years old and there were 3 John Deere dealers within 26 miles, all are now gone, and the nearest dealer is 60 miles away!

I know where there is a whole field full of rusting machinery; the bank now owns it. During a time when there was an Oliver dealer during a time when Oliver offered a loader with a new tractor. This dealer sold the tractors without the loader and left several loaders to rust along with a lot of trade-in machinery, Now it is just rusty scrap metal because nothing has been moved for at least 25 years. Owner cannot sell and bank not interested.

Well it is a diesel. If only these old tractors could talk and tell their stories. If you found the owner he would more than likely want more than a running one would cost. I know where there is a Deere 620 setting in a shed that has not moved in 40 years. They won't sell and the shed is ready to fall on top it. Just sad but each to there own. Tom

thank you bob, I learned something new today, I thought the 40 series where made up into the late 70's. still boogles my mind as to why the owner would just park it and walk away. it would have been at least 15 years old and probably 20 when it was parked, but still worth money and still worth fixing if it needed engine overhaul or tranny, clutch. oh well as tom said just sad but each to their own.

Man oh man does that bring back memories. I should get those books from my mom for my kids to read.
We've got all the Tractor Mac series. Thanks for posting that.
