Question for Dieseltech

My HD6 hasn't left yet. For some silly reason the guy wants to make sure it starts, and steers before handing me the money. Got the fuel filters changed and bled. The pump is an American Bosch PSB4A-100G 5811AT (or A1). What should I check before cranking it over? Ran it about 10 hours about a year and a half ago, sitting inside since.

Anytime PSB pumps set awhile without running, I get nervous at startup. In your case I'd take off rear four bolt governor cover, and use a finger to see that the top lever with the cam nose moves easily. It should want to move forward after pushing it back. If it does that means the control unit and/or plunger metering sleeve are not stuck. If it DOESN'T want to move at all, then the pump should be removed as is, WHERE is, meaning DON'T TURN THE ENGINE AT ALL!! Timing can be sorted out later after the pump is hopefully saved from stuck parts damage by someone who knows how that pump works. If the hydraulic head plunger is stuck, it can break easily just by turning the engine by hand..

Thanks. A lot easier and cheaper to prevent problems. If it is stuck expect a geek bearing gifts.

That is good advice. PSB head assemblies are not available new.

Ok so here is the million dollar question; How long is to long to let one sit? A year, few months?? I know there's no definitive answer here just asking you opinion. I have not started the super 88 since January, I need to get it out and moved around. Do you think a I should check plunger first?

All depends on fuel too, if there's any traces of water in fuel, or Bio-fuel, chances of sticking/breaking the plunger WILL go up. I'd say they should be started at least every six months at minimum, more often if possible.
