Drones, drones everywhere!

I see the area consignment auction has gotten drone fever as well. They have 6 sales a year - third Thursday of even months. They posted a 13 minute video in their site from a drone flying over the equipment. Wonder if the drone will be taking bids at the sale...?

If you're at a public auction how do you expect privacy. If it's flying over your property that's a different story Tony

I have an issue with those cell phone cameras also. It is NOT OKAY to take pictures or videos of ANYTHING without first asking permission. At the very least it is VERY bad manners.

Watch the video. There's power lines across the lot. Drone driver spent a lot of time making sure that he didn't hit the poles or the lines.
I don't even understand why they made the video. It's not like I'm gonna say, "Oh look! A view of a New Holland combine from 30 feet up! I'm gonna bid the moon on that beaut!" Though it did show you the sale order as long as they don't move anything around. And they usually do move stuff around.

I went to a lawn and garden place's inventory reduction sale a month or so ago and they had a drone flying around while the auction was in progress. Very distracting. All the bidders were all looking up at it instead of the auctioneer. He got pretty annoyed and called out the operator to get it away from his bidders. I think it was his own employee running it, but I'm not sure.

Its only a matter of time until they will be buzzing the auction crowds and recording any pilfering as well as who is bidding on what.

If anything the drone will be making bids.

I have a big issue with the invasion of privacy angle of drones.

I've mentioned on this forum before, when I was doing real estate inspections, on a dwelling with a privacy fence around the back yard all we had to do was take a photo of the fence from our own eye level and turn the photo in as reason for not accessing the back yard or rear of the house.

For whatever reason some inspector (not me) held his camera up and took a picture over the fence. He got a beautiful picture--of the homeowner's 14 year old daughter indulging in some topless sunbathing. And she saw the camera. You wouldn't believe how the stuff hit the fan, including the inspector being terminated on the spot.

I see a lot of potentially similar issues with drone usage.

More than politics or even a Ford vs Chevy debate, there's something about the topic of drones that gets some whipped up into a wild frenzy. A person could walk around a place with their cell phone camera out recording all and sundry and nobody would give them a glance. But put 4 little propellers on a camera and suddenly it's the devil's plaything...

You're not exactly right about that. If some guy was recording my farm yard with his cell phone, he would certainly hear gun shots from my general direction.

We have a late summer fireworks display here in local town.

Last 3 years, a drone comes up from the college next door and films it. Last summer, a second drone came.

As a drone owner, cool to film that, would like to try some time!

As a spectator, it gets a little distracting seeing multiple flashing lights circling the main light show. I'd sure hate to see 4 to 5 to a dozen flying around the show.

Hum. Gonna be hard sorting this all out over time. I don't have the answer, I can certainly see both sides.

Couple years ago, a friend and I were talking about it, and he said everyone should be banned from owning a drone but me. That kinda maybe sums it up.

Hopefully no one gets hurt from the flying plastic as these invasions of privacy are skillfully and forcefully removed from the air.
