Minnesotans will recognise this right away, but for out of towners, that license plate is what we call a whiskey plate or drunk plate. If you get arrested for drunk driving here and want your license back you have to use one of these plates. They are always 2 letters and 4 numbers and always start with W. What this plate does is give the cops cause to pull you over and search your vehicle and test you for driving under the influence any time without any other cause.

This is the first time I've seen one on a commercial vehicle tho! The first thing that came to mind was I wonder if he went to impound some drunks car while drunk.

Call them "party plates" around here. Yellow plate with red letters/numbers....stick out like a sore thumb compared to our ordinary plates. Saw one today on a contractors van,,not sure I'd want him working at my house.

El, I saw a Dart semi with the W one time !!!
Musta been different DOT regulations ???

Her phreind,

Utah has lowered the legal limit on alcohol so low if you use more than half the cap of listerene after you brush your teeth and get pulled over you are getting a dui

that is a great idea! we need that up here in Canada! the latest stats I have heard is that there are 4 people killed every day in Canada by impaired drivers. that's not counting the hundreds that get into wrecks, injure someone, or cripple them. folks just don't get the message it seems 40 or 50 years ago there wasn't so much traffic, the roads were mostly gravel, the speeds where lower, but in todays world it's just insane drinking and driving. when you get behind the wheel today you have to be paying attention at all times, especialy around the bigger citys and the busy freeways.

Our current laws are worse than stupid. Every person is different. There are people out there who could drink a case and still be safe drivers, whereas a guy like me would be in bad shape from a small glass of wine. I guess I'm lucky that my church is almost straight up the road from my house. Several years back, a guy I knew got busted for DUI. Officer administered a field sobriety test and said he failed. When he got to the station, he blew 0.00000 He does not drink.
I don't like drunk drivers, but I also don't like over the top BS laws.

Are you sure that"s not an import from WYO ming? Either the State, or the MN town? Yeah, I know about MN whiskey plates...see them occasionally. It"s a heads up for LEO. Don"t know how long the offenders need to have them.

One of the electricians in our town had the whiskey plates on his van--not for him, but his kid worked with him and was the one with the problem, and the one who drove the van.
Eventually the kid totaled the van, and the old man fired him.
Haven't checked whether the new van has the plates or not.
