Trying to make sense of form 4136 credit for non-taxable fuel. Have spent about 4 hours trying to find tax credit for Diesel, gasoline and propane
used on the farm. Can anyone help me out on this? Is this still a deduction?

Thanks Gene

Im not sure what your issue is Gene. If you bought gas, propane, diesel fuel and paid full freight (ie gas station price or on-road fuel price) you can get a tax credit (not tax deduction per se)for so many cents per gallon. If you have solid records that support the amount of gallons you purchased for off road you are good.

I do have all my receipts for all of my purchases but have not been able to determine the tax credit per gallon of any of the fuel. Previous years always had the rate on the form 4136, but not this year. Does not give any information in the instructions nor in farmers tax guide.

I now have the excise tax paid on the fuel. What I need to know is I can file for credit on my taxes? Has this changed for 2017 tax year?

Gene

My 2017 form 4136 shows .183/gal on line 1b- farm gasoline.
I printed most of these forms off the computer/web. This year I noticed I had to watch it or they printed off the year old form.
I don't pay any tax on farm diesel or propane.

Thanks BobI do pay tax on propane but not on diesel. Online form has no space for in dyed diesel as no tax is paid on it.

Have finally got it all figured. Dyed diesel has no rebate but gasoline and lp and kerosene is credited.

Clear now. Gene
