530 Case Governor Shaft Bearing Removal

Hello i'm new to this whole forum stuff and i apologize if my post has been repeated in the past... well heres the skinny...
1965 530 Gas
Front cover
governor bearings
I am wondering if anyone on here has ever replaced the bottom bearing thats pressed into the cover and how in the world do i get it out... the top bearing can be knocked out with a punch but as far as the bottom bearing goes im drawing a blank here... i would have left it alone if id known it'd be this much trouble... lost a few rollers out of it, now im up a creek, please help!!

I can't answer your question directly. The repair manual is around $45 used and has more than 100 pages. Recommended. Bearing
splitters with reversed "jaws" can be used to push in under an outer race to pull it. Good luck with the repair and I hope someone
has had experience with it, or has that manual. Jim

The manual only refernces "bearing" not bearings. the parts diagram shows both being servicable. problem is the ID of the bearing is about a 1/4" and its in a very ackward spot.... just wondering if anyone has ever replaced the bottom bearing and how they went about doing so or what tool they used...

Take a 1/4" grade 5 bolt that is long enough to have a non-threaded shank that can be used as follows. Use a dremel tool or narrow
grinding wheel to notch the side of the bolt shank so it has a small "foot" at the original diameter and is ground down so it can
be slipped into the bearing and moved sideways to hook under the back side of the ID. Then use a small nail or tiny screw driver
to wedge the bolt sideways to prevent the undercut from escaping. Pull or pry on the bolt head. Jim

I used a piece of .250" steel round stock and ground a hook feature on the end of it. I threaded the opposite end of the rod for a nut which would allow me to use the steel round stock rod as a slide hammer. The bearing shell you are trying to remove has inward facing flanges on both ends. Since the bearing has needles missing, you will be able to hook the flange and pull it from the casting. I replaced both needle bearings with bronze bushings. The needle bearings had worn deep grooves in the governor shaft so I made a replacement shaft and welded it to the governor arm after removing the bad one. The book calls for a felt washer at the top of the casting. I used a .750" OD X .250" ID single lip seal which I purchased from the McMaster Carr Industrial supply catalog. The photo shows the new shaft being clocked correctly before welding. I hope this helps.
