1953 fordson major

Saw one with diesel motor. Needs trans work. I don?t know what as haven?t looked at it. They want
$900 for it. Are parts available for these tractors, and is that a bit high priced for that tractor. Has 3
point and pto but not sure if they are live or not

Price is a bit high, parts are available even if they have to be shipped from England. Transmission is virtually bullet proof, could be a failed bearing. The tractor has to be split to get the inner gearbox out but even that is not a bad job if you take your time. I could split the tractor and put in a new clutch in just over an hour when I was younger.

The way to check for a live clutch is to look at the High-Low selector lever. If High is up then it has a live clutch. If you have your date right, 1953, it will not have a live clutch because they did not become available until 1957 on the Major.
 
yes it has a bracket from the bottom muffler clamp back to the chassis it would be to weight on the exhaust manifold otherwise
