I need to raise my flail mower just a few more inches off the ground. I am maxed out on the lifting link threads. I can raise the mower a few needed inches, by raising the control a bit. The lift shafts will stay in that position, until I move the control. Questioin: Should I find new shorter lifting links, or can I let the mower hang on the hydraulics of the lift shafts? Stan

Have you tried changing the setting of L/D lever under seat? Have you checked to determine if rockshaft when raised is at maximum rotation(height)? This check should be accomplished with no implement on 3 pt hitch. With engine running raise 3 pt by moving control handle fully to the rear then manually lift on one draft to determine if it can be raised any more. If draft arm raises the the hyd mechanism needs to be adjusted as outlined in a JD 401 tech manual. Be careful not to adjust so it attempts to raise too high as I've witnessed rockshaft housings cracked from trying to raise too high.
