Dump bed...no power at controls

I'm working on a electric dumpbed. It is power up and gravity down. Solenoid is good. Power goes into unit then comes out with 3 wires to switch. Have no power at switch. Seems something inside motor has gone bad. Can jump it and make it go up but have to manually make it go down. I will tear it apart to see what's going on in there when the truck is not needed for a few days. Anyone had one apart? What should I look for? Reset button or fuse or maybe it's just wore out. It's about a 1985 model.[/i]

That you can jump it and make it go up proves the motor is good.

Are the controls remote mounted on a rubber cord?

If so, check the cord carefully. Could be a broken wire from vibration. Look near the ends where it gets the most flexing. Could also be a corroded connection from water getting in the unit.

If you restore power to the switch, chances are it will work both directions.

A little off track. Long ago at work we had a lift gate on a heavy
pickup truck. There was a secret button on the controler. Up in the
corner and un marked. Sort of like that stupid button you need to push
on your garden tractor to mow backwards.

Thanks. I ran a hotwire to the switch and it goes up but not down. They have been manually letting it down for awhile and it has not been wired correctly also. It did have power at the switch yesterday. The solenoid quit working and lost power at the switch. I will have to tear into when they don't need it.

On my snow plow electric control there is a power wire to energize the motor to make it lift----but there is also another wire that has to be energized to release the valve in the unit to let it down

Yes. I energized the other one and it was a dead short. I will tear it down when they don't need the truck. Thank you for the help.
