Here are some of my students getting started with their projects in a tractor and machinery repair class. First time posting a photo so I hope it works!

Somebody is going to get a sore foot when they drop something on those tennis shoes.

They should be wearing steel toes.

Thank you for posting the pictures. It is nice seeing the mechanical side of Ag being emphasized. My ffa seemed to be almost wholly consumed with livestock which bored me to death. The closest thing I got was small engines class.

"I think I may have it!"

Yes, they posted, but they're all sideways for PC users.
That usually means you are posting from a MAC or a mobile device.
Either of which will show them correctly when viewed on the same.

Glad to see the kids actually getting some hands-on training.
I had a young tractor "mechanic" from a local dealer out here not
too long ago. He looked at my Ford 8N and thought it was "cool".
Then he asked me where you hook up the code reader.

(quoted from post at 21:16:28 03/27/18) Glad to see kids working on tractors ! Don?t mind the safety police I think your doing a good job

What's the deal with question marks used in place of apostrophes?

I've noticed many posters do this not just you.

I have been wondering this as well. On another forum the question marks are even upside down.

SV ...... you're probably right but all of that is fine until someone drops something on their foot and they end up in a cast. You can imagine what happens next ....... let's just say "legal" issues would surface. Our tractor club has a local high school fixing up a Farmall A for us, I see in photos they send us that they all wear gloves and safety glasses ...... but sneakers on their feet. Would be pretty hard these days to outfit everyone in safety boots, most kids wouldn't know what those are. At least they're not barefoot.

If he is posting from a Mac it uses a weird character set and not all software translates it the same. There may be other setups that do the same on non-Macs as well.

As to the safety police simply disregard them. At least one aircraft factory here doesn't call for steel toes either. Too many toes sheared off by the "safety feature" when something falls on the shoe. They do wear good leather though.

Yeah, just like the guy who escaped death because he wasn't wearing his seatbelt in some kind of a vehicle accident. It is possible .... so
that makes anyone who wears their seatbelt just asking for a death sentence. I'm sure there have been many times more shop workers who are
glad they had them on than the occasional one who regretted wearing them. Just sayin ...... and really, what's wrong with being safety
conscious?

That's a great thing your doing for those kids, thanks!

Wow, I find it hard to believe a school does not require safety glasses when working on a shop floor. If the kids want to work in a shop anywhere outside dad's farm they will be need to get used to wearing safety glasses. Most places require them even for visitors on a guided tour.

I never wore safety toe, steel toe or what ever. Better a beat up foot than a cut off foot. Plus, the steel toe shoes cause a lot of infected toe nails etc. I would not wear those tennis shoes either as they kill your feet but those kids are only in there for a hour or so in a day. You wear safety glasses when doing certain jobs but they cause eye problems if wearing them all the time when not needed.

Thanks for all the replies! Not sure why some are seeing question marks on the post. The safety glasses are my fault as I told them to go look busy so I could get a picture. Class hadnt started yet and I wanted a quick picture to post later. So far two OSHA inspections and only some broken insulation on some old machines to speak of! Will keep you posted on their progress!
